A Personal Reflection of the Chinggis Khaan Ceremony

Abstract: We all had our unique traits, but we shared the same Mongol heritage. That knowledge and sense of camaraderie brought us together each year to remember the founder of the Mongol empire, Chinggis Khaan. Centuries ago, he united all of our tribes and with his aptitude for strategizing and statesmanship, left a legacy so storied that people all over the world know his name to this day, giving our people an everlasting source of pride. The annual ceremony in his memory fortified my understanding of what it meant to be a Mongol - an identity inclusive of all the people united under Chinggis Khaan, despite where they were located in the world - and gave me the conviction to face the inevitable questions people would have about my background.

Mongolia Elects Khaltmaa Battulga as its New President

The Democratic Party's Khaltmaa Battulga was elected president of Mongolia on July 7th, 2017. President Battulga won by just 50.6 percent of the vote over Miyegombo Enkhbold of the Mongolian People's Party (MPP). This marks Mongolia's first runoff election. The MPP retains a super majority in parliament.

Inner Mongolia Suffers from Worst Drought on Record

Inner (Southern) Mongolia is suffering from its worst drought on record. Millions of acres of pastureland have been affected. The severe drought is believed to be caused by climate change and the economic loss is estimated to be at $780 million dollars.

The University of Pennsylvania Now Houses the Fourth Largest Mongolian Language Collection in The United States

The Van Pelt-Dietrich Library at the University of Pennsylvania grew to house the fourth largest Mongolian collection in the U.S. in less than a year. The collection complements and bolsters U Penn's new Mongolian Studies program.

L.A.'s "Little Mongolia"

Los Angeles' growing Mongolian community, estimated to be up to 5,000 strong, appears to be one of the city's newest ethnic enclaves. The community's population has grown rapidly over the last decade. Recent immigrants from Mongolia struggle to maintain traditional cultural ties while integrating into American society.

Mongolia's Sumiya Dorjsuren Wins Gold Medal at the 2017 World Judo Championship

26 year old Sumiya Dorjsuren defeated Tsukasa Yoshida of Japan to become the 2017 lightweight judoka champion. The match, held in Hungary, lasted two times longer than average. Dorjsuren was the first non-Japanese athlete to win a gold medal at this year's championship.

A Trailer for Mongolia's First Animated Film "Genghis Khan" Has Been Released

After five years of production Ocean Pictures has released the trailer to "Genghis Khan." The Ocean Pictures production will be Mongolia's first animated film. The movie tells the story of Chinggis Khaan who united the tribes of Mongolia in the 13th century and founded the Mongol Empire.
