Mongol Heritage Foundation's 7th Annual NYC Tsagaan Sar Celebration

On Saturday, March 10, 2018 the Mongol Heritage Foundation partnered with the Brooklyn Borough to hold the 7th Annual Tsagaan Sar celebration at the Brooklyn Borough Hall. Hazara, Buryat, Kalmyk, Tuvan, Mongolian, and Southern Mongolian Mongols from NYC gathered to build a traditional ger in the rotunda of the hall, and were treated to performances of traditional Mongolian song and dance in celebration of the Mongolian lunar new year.

Making Mongolian Ger Dwellings More Energy-Efficient

Mongolia's harsh winter conditions combined with the method of burning wood and unrefined coal to warm a Mongol ger has contributed to making Ulaanbaatar one of the most polluted cities in the world. Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania are working with a Mongolian non-profit organization called GerHub to study ger thermal behavior and identify ways to improve its energy performance.

Kalmyk Musical Performance of the Buddha’s Life Presented in Tuva and Buryatia

A musical performance titled I Am Buddha was performed by the B. Basangov Kalmyk State Theater of Drama in the Republic of Tuva and the Republic of Buryatia this past month of April. The performance was authored by Hongor Elbikov, minister of culture and tourism for the Republic of Kalmykia and was intended to foster a greater understanding of Buddhism.
